With continuing problems with the latest iterations of vRanger, I’m starting to look at alternatives that would be feasible to implement within our environment. Since we have the licensing, VMware Data Recovery seems like an obvious candidate. The problem I’ve stalled upon is the fact that VDR dedupes its data. Yep I said it, it’s a problem. You see, traditionally I would love this feature of VDR but since we have a Data Domain DDR in house I would much prefer that it do the deduplication of my data. Everything about the VDR feature set fits the bill, but the fact that there isn’t an option to turn off the data dedupe may hold us up.
I’m going to continue to dig into this, as I think there certainly has to be a way to address the matter. If you have a DDR and have considered using VMware Data Recovery, how did you approach the situation?
